The Solution
After scouting around the market and trying out various vendors, Superior Wireless chose smartBridges' airHaul Nexus for their wireless backhaul requirement. The airHaul Nexus provided the distance, bandwidth and carrier-class reliability to cost effectively provide the backhaul bandwidth required by the remote APs.
“I had bought a pair of Tsunami Quick bridges to replace the existing Trango Point-to-Point links,” explained Mr. Laura. “This was before smartBridges had announced the shipment of the Nexus Point to Point backhauls. Three weeks ago we replaced the Tsunami link with a pair of airHaul Nexus. This link spans a distance of 7 miles (11 km). I am seeing a rock solid 15 Mbps throughput on this link! Usually I knock 20-25 percent off the advertised specs and figure this is what will be seen in the real world. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Nexus radios surpassed their advertised throughput and the distance. I am impressed with airHaul Nexus' ability to deliver the speed, bandwidth and reliability required to meet our objectives. After seeing what the Nexus radios can do, I now have a brand new pair of Tsunami Q/B 60s for sale.”

The owner of the office building was so delighted with the high speed connectivity to his building that he gave Superior Wireless permission to use the building rooftop for free. With a quick site survey and combination of airPoint Pro Outdoor and airBridge Total devices, Superior Wireless increased their wireless coverage to a nearby RV park and a hotel. The owner of the RV park was amazed with the potential of wireless broadband. He is a happy camper with another value-adding revenue stream.
“Previously, we were limited by interference issues and bandwidth availability to extend the reach of wireless coverage,” explained Mr. Laura. “Today, with long-distance wireless backhauls, we are not only able to connect to more customers, but also able to give them the capability to run high-end applications like video streaming, VoIP and enterprise class data. Said Mr. Laura: “ Last month, I had a prospective customer call me for an Internet connection for a condo sales office. It was a 44-unit complex under construction, with a starting price of $400,000 per condo. The developers wanted to pre-sell the units while under construction and required me to install the Internet in the model unit which would be used for the temporary sales office. As the location was new, they couldn't even get phone service. Within a day, I shot a link from our Central Business POP and had them on the Internet with a VoIP hooked up. The developers still can't believe I was able to do what the local incumbent Telco couldn't. Now, with this service they are going to help me market the phone, data and remote video to the new owners of the condo.”
